Aflac
At Zimmerman, we sold through a social idea that was (in 2008/9) something of a game changer. The Duck was already famous for saying one word—repeatedly, and loudly. We wanted to change up what he talked about, so we gave him a voice on Facebook and Twitter. It was before Instagram, but I bet we could have had some fun with that.
Anyway, here are some of my favorite status updates, and a case study video for a campaign.
Branded ContentWith as large of a fan-base as we had, they basically treated their Facebook as a way to get some traction for their press releases. | Branded ContentThey had a lot of different things going on—from childhood cancer prevention to the World Series of Little League. The duck commented on them all. | Branded ContentThe duck had to deal with office stuff. Lulz ensued. |

Unbranded ContentFunny to think that this was 4/5 years ago, and it was still just as popular to make fun of Nickelback. Funny and comforting. | Unbranded ContentI didn't realize this until later, but I accidentally cribbed this from an episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I've since become better about burying my sources. | Unbranded ContentAaron Neville is not a punchline. He's the whole damn joke. Having said that, I think he is also a national treasure. |
Unbranded ContentAn environmental message. |
We did a social challenge where contestants had to explain Aflac's offerings in 10 seconds or less. People were excited to engage with the Duck. And the $25,000 first prize didn't hurt either.
